Inside & Outside the Box Projects for Marketing is designed to add variety in the classroom and at the same time accomplish the educational goals of the teacher.
Each project is clearly aligned with objectives that coincide with the national framework of marketing standards, making it easy to select a project for the curriculum being taught. Some projects are complete with rubrics or quizzes. Others are to be used as resources to prepare students for their test of knowledge.
A very simple, yet effective introductory project is included. It introduces students to 3 major components of the marketing education class: the 4 foundations and 7 functions; the marketing mix, or the four P's; and the definition of marketing in 3 easy to understand statements...
- the coordination of business activities (foundations & function or the 4 P's)
- to provide goods and services
- to meet the wants and needs of customers
Tara Richardson, creator of Custom Resources marketing tools, surveyed students in focus groups and found out of 100 students, less than 5 could provide an adequate definition of marketing! The problem she believes is that marketing is so diverse students are bombarded with new information that doesn't always have a clear connection to everything else being taught in class. Through the simple project "Here Lies the Journey," students will have the knowledge of how each day's lessons, projects, or activities tie together. This, states Tara is the key to understanding and ultimately remembering anything... being able to make sense of it.
Small, medium, and large projects are included; some take only one class period to complete, others take much longer. Ideas for educational fundraising projects and competitive written events are also included. One component of many written events is the evaluation... a complete project on survey creation is included in Projects for Marketing. Additionally, samples of executive summaries taken from professional proposals have been provided for students who may need direction writing their summary for a written competitive event.
All projects come in a 2 inch binder as well as on CD. Files are in Microsoft Word format. Purchasing teachers have reproducable rights and may edit each project to fit their classroom needs.
